An expatriate community of Sri Lanka has been based on mainly Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk) in the Republic of Iraq. In addition the few Sri Lankans are working in Baghdad, Basra, Hilla, Najaf and Karbala. The following consular activities covered by the Embassy of Sri Lanka, in Iraq and the charges for the consular services are as follows:

  • 1. Visa


    • i. USD 35/- Tourist visa fee for Iraqi and other Nationalities except SAARC countries with double entry for 30days.
    • ii. USD 40/- Business Visa fee for Iraqi and other Nationalities except SAARC countries with Multiple entry for 30days.
    • iii. Transit Visa free for all Nationalities Single Entry for 02 days.
    • iv. USD 20/- for SAARC Nationals- tourist visa with double entry for 30days.
    • v. Visa free for Children under 12 years of Age..
    • vi. Gratis visa will be provided for Diplomatic and Official Passport holders who are travel to Sri Lanka for Official Purposes.
    • vii. If anybody wishes to travel Sri Lanka for holiday they must have Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter to Sri Lanka, please visit http//www.eta.gov.lk and pay online.
    • viii. Please note that you can obtain a Business Visa from Sri Lanka Embassy only.

  • 2. Issuance of New Passport


    • The Applicant should fill the relevant Application (form K 35A) along with the following:

    • i. Three coloured photograph 3.5x4.5 cm.
    • ii. Copy of present passport.
    • iii. Copy of Birth Certificate.
    • iv. Authorized letter from the Employer.
    • v. The charges for new passport is USD 150/--
    • vi. In the case of lost passport USD 200/- as fine and USD 150/- for normal processing fee, total USD 350/- will be charged.
    • vii. To travel one way to Sri Lanka temporary passport will be issued. For normal condition USD 150/- will be charged for NMRP and USD 350/- will be charged for NMRP in lieu of lost passport to return to Sri Lanka.

  • 3. Attestation of Documents


    • In case of Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Education Certificate prior attestation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka is required and charges apply for attestation is USD 30/-

      The following duly authorized documents will be attested by the Mission after checking the contents and charges applied is USD 30/-

    • i. Affidavit.
    • ii. Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.
    • iii. Education or vocational training and any other Academic Certificates.
    • iv. Police Reports.
    • v. Driving licenses (Translation).
    • vi. Any other Certificates.


  • The following duly authorized documents will be authenticated by the Mission after checking the contents and charges applied is USD 50/-

  • i. Job Order
  • ii. Special Power of Attorney
  • iii. Labour Agreement / Agent-to- Agent Agreement.

  • 4. Transport of Human Remains


  • The Embassy will issue No Objection Letter to the Employer if there is any death case. Other relevant documents will be issued on demand of legal NOKK to send off the body to Sri Lanka.

    The Death Certificate will be issued for the legal NOKK through the Consular Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombo after receiving consent from Central record room.


  • 5. Repatriation


  • If there is any repatriation case, the Embassy will coordinate with relevant Authorities in Iraq including Immigration, Police and Prison.

    For the registered migrant workers could obtain one way air ticket to return home from SLBFE. ( if there is any reasonable case)


  • 6. Compensation


  • If there is any compensation case, Embassy will communicate with relevant Authorities in Iraq and try to get the compensation or blood money from the Employer / relevant company. The action will be taken to send the compensation amount to NOK through Consular Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombo.
